V2+ Meta-Model

The metamodel for v2+ consists of two major parts:

  • version-dependant basic structures (upper part)
  • updated vocabulary model (lower part)

HL7 v2+ metamodel

Version-dependant part

The upper part contains all elements, that depend on a specific version - no matter how a version is identified. (Currently we talk about annual releases, so that the version ID may become something like “2022r1” or so.

Terminology-dependant part

​Terminology/vocabulary is something that needs to be maintained independently. The whole vocabulary is extracted and migrated to UTG THO.

Major changes against v2.x

What are the major changes of v2+ in contrast to v2.x:

  • optionality/usage + repetitions => implement + cardinality
  • separation of vocabulary
